Discover our story and the values driving our commitment to community.
The Nutmeg House BK, Inc., formerly Sustainable Grenada Organization of New York, Inc. (SGO-NY), is a 501(c)3 community-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in vulnerable situations through sustainable solutions.
Founded by Denise Roberts, we mobilize, coordinate, and collaborate among social networks to provide support services designed to help meet emerging needs—enabling our clients to flourish and thrive.
The idea to establish The Nutmeg House emerged after two major hurricanes—Ivan (2004) and Emily (2005)—left Grenada and other Caribbean islands devastated, mobilizing our founder to help communities rebuild.
The 2007 global financial crisis expanded our mission to address the heavy burden of poverty facing individuals and families in New York, including many seeking sanctuary and living under difficult circumstances.
Today, we help close gaps in support of the UN's sustainable development agenda, improving quality of life and living standards for people in vulnerable conditions in both New York and Grenada.
